Why is Charcoal Better than Gas for Barbecuing?

August 29, 2016

The great debate in grilling is whether to use charcoal or gas. And when it comes to grilling, there really is no middle ground on the best way for barbequing. However, the verdict is in; barbecue food tastes much better when it is cooked over charcoal than gas. Plus, hands are all down when comparing tastes and the best flavour. Nonetheless, there are also many other reasons why charcoal is better than gas for barbecuing.

Easier to Clean

All that needs cleaned with a charcoal grill after cooking is the grill racks and sweeping the ash out of the bottom. Though, some charcoal grills have an ash catcher. with gas, you need to clean the grill rack plus clean the drippings from the awkward bits of gas equipment under the rack.

Cost Effective

Overall, a gas grill is generally going to be a lot more cost effective than a charcoal grill. This is because there are a lot more attachments and pieces to a gas grill such as fittings, burners, gas tubes and other electrics.

Control of Heat is Easier

Charcoal is much more flexible and can placed anywhere under the grill rack. This allows better control of heat and the ability to create cool areas. As well, you can half fill it or completely fill the bottom of the grill, put it on both sides so the central area is free. with a gas grill, you have less control and manoeuvrability.

Easily Transportable

Charcoal grills can easily be taken most anywhere. However, gas grills are cumbersome and not easily moved. In addition, when traveling, Charcoal is much easier to find in a market than gas and a lot more transportable and cheaper.

Food Tastes Much Better

Many would agree, barbecue food tastes much better when cooked over charcoal than gas. With better controlled heat and the smoky flavour from the charcoal, barbeque food could not be more delicious.

Genuine Cooking Experience

There is something to be said about having a real fire and grilling your food over a bunch of hot coals. It is like camping in your back yard with the gourmet luxuries of a good grill. The truth of the matter is, you cannot get the same ambience with a gas grill. It does not have a real fire or the true heat like a campfire. Truthfully, a charcoal grill is much more genuine and authentic than a gas.
